Ok well I have now officially launched the new service over at l4n

What is this service? Well here is the post I made over there that should explain it a little bit

This site is currently a network of 2 services and a community forum. However we are going to be expanding it as we are able to. Currently the service we offer are a short url service that will take those really long links and make them short enough to post in your twitter status or msn status..ect..ect. The other service we offer is free subdomains. These are great if you are unable to afford your own domain name because we know all to well that that stuff does cost money. So you are able to get a sub domain such as yourclan.l4n.us. As appose to what your host would offer you as a subdomain. [i.e. yourclan.hostingsite.com]. Our subdomain service also masks the domain so they would not get redirected to the longer domain and would stay on the domain you got from us. An example of this would be themodshop.l4n.us. The real domain name is themodshop.net however the url in your browser always stays the same.

As of now there are no ads on any of our services. However we do have the ability for you to have a ad at the top of your website with your website. But we dont force it. All that we ask is you try and support us by donating or even send more users to the site.

One thing I was asked when I was setting this up is “Why are you doing that?” and my answer has always been the same. Because I can. Its a service that can be great for everyone. Ya sure there may be others out there but those places force ads on your website most of the time and thats not fun. And not many of them have a community forum you are able to go post in and talk with other users/members.

As far as this blog. It will be used to update everyone about current service updates and other information such as services we are going to add or services we are planning to add. As well as updates on ad programs we will offer and any other changes that we choose to make. Remember we are always open to suggestions so feel free to register on the forums and post them or click teh contact us link above.

A bit about myself. I have been around computers and the web since I was 13 and have always liked it. I currently run a webhost and a semi-popular blog and am part of some large communities online. I have ran a free host before but got out of it due to all the abuse that seems to happen with them. However who knows what the future holds . The idea for this came to me one evening when I was doing random domain name searches. Once I found that these domain names were available I couldn’t help but grab them up and get working on all the scripting side of it. My goal when I was setting this up was to use all free or opensource software. And I have succeeded at that by using software such as wordpress for the blog and mybb for the forums. So once I found out I could do it all then the beta testing went into place. This did not take long. The shorten url script I had from theurlshop.info and it has always served me well so I just re-skinned it and put it over onto this site. The sub domain software on the other had was a bit harder to get done. It required some apache vhost edits wildcard subdomains and a script that was very hard to find. Once I found that script and did my own customizations all was working well. And that’s when the real fun began. I had to go around and use some of my websites to test everything out and make sure all of it worked as it should. I apparently got lucky with that one. At that point I installed wordpress and Skinned it finished setting up the rest of the site. And as of this post I am still working on getting the forums done.

Well I logged in and what do you know “WordPress 2.6.5 is avaible! Please Update now.” Now in the past almost every time I attempt to upgrade wordpress it has failed. So please buckel up and keep your hands inside the failbus at all times its going to be a bumpy ride as I update wordpress.

I had a nice video I was making for a blog post and for some fucked up resion my video editing software decided to take a crap. And being as smart as I am I was not saving like I should have been. So I am gonna keep working and will get the video made and post it here as soon as I get it done.

Well right now I am working on a way for everyone who cant afford a domain and dont like the looks of one such as “someclansite.thefreesuperlonghostthatsuckswithitsdomainnames.com” Instend you would be able to get “someclansite.XXX.XX” Sorry  no details about what the domain name is yet. However look for a blog post announcing its active soon
