Opendns – for those times when your isp’s dns servers fail.
Ok well early this morning my isp decided to fail in the sense of there dns servers. So being the smart person I am I went in and changed my dns servers and made it where I am using opendns. Now I have found that opendns is quite a bit faster. Along with being faster you can setup shortcuts and custom logos and such. So now when ever I type in a invalid domain name instead of being directed to some crappy yahoo search I am direct to some crappy search with my logo on it! Also the shortcuts. I can type in mod and it takes me to themodshop.net. Another nice thing is the ability to enable domain connection. In this case its kinda like you try to type in themodshop.net but you some how manage to type in themodshop.nt. It will redirect you to themodshop.net if you have it enabled to do so. Same if you try to type in google.com and type in google.cm instead or .co…ect..ect. So I would suggest anyone that is having issues with there isp’s dns servers check out opendns.

I have not gotten a chance to try it myself but im sure it would work great for video rendering! Anyway to check out the episode of hak5 click the source link below. There is more to the episode but that is the part I wanted to post about

No commentsWeekly Podcast?
Ok this is one that I have been thinking about.
Doing a weekly podcast be it live over a shoutcast stream or recorded and aviable for download via our own site or itunes…ect…ect. Just not sure if I want to commit to something like this if no one would be interested in doing it. So here is my question for today. Should we start doing a podcast of some sort? Email your answers or opinions to tracker[at]themodshop[dot]net and let us know
Share the wifi! – [block there porn!]
The Wired blog has a decent wiki article on how to share your wifi with your friends in the neiborhood. There are a few suggestions I would have if you are intedned to do this.
- Use DD-WRT.
- In DD-WRT enable AP Isolation so that they cant access each others computers
- Create multiple access points [virtual access points] at least one that is secure for your own use.
- Block access to porn and warez sites
- Block torrents/limewire/p2p in general [keep your bandwidth usage low and legal]
- Enable a ad supported service to make a little money off it.
These are just my suggestions to add onto what they say at wired. And all of these functions are able to be done with DD-WRT. So google that

No commentsWanna Write For TheModShop? [Anyone?]
This is your chance!
If you have not noticed its been just me [Tracker] writing for a while. Don’t know where Dark has been hes sorta MIA. I have been having a hard time coming up with new mods because I am trying to always make my daily post. So thats why I am wanting to bring someone else to write for us and also to take some of it off my back and let me focus on getting some nice mods put up here.
We want writers who want to be apart of something we hope to grow into a prosperous community.
As a Author you will be able to post all your insight on the modding community and world and basically any other tech stuff you can find.
You will be given Mod. status on the forums and will be able to post things on the blog without permission from the admins
(currently this is only I and Dark)
We hope in the future to expand this forum and help more –for lack of a better term– normal people, and experienced modders
to help make this world a more friendly place, and as fully customized as possible.
We have created this blog to help bring news of new developments that might interest modders and hackers.
We have however some requirements for this job:
1. You have some Background in the tech field or just like technology.
2. You can write with decent grammar.
3. You DO NOT plagiarize! This will be strictly enforced. You should always give credit where credit is due.
4. You can show us proof that you are up to date and are dedicated. You should create a post and send it in to tracker[at]themodshop[dot]net [this can be about anything at all.]
With your email you should also send your Desired name you want to be called by, and you county (we are open to any but its nice to know)
Thank you for your time and we hope to see lots of entries.

No commentsI got my phone! – Now im sending it back!
Well as with any ebay auction. You take the risk of the item being broke when you get it. The phone I ordered off ebay got to me today. And it does not work correctly. So what can I do? Email the seller. Thankfully the seller has a exchange/return policy and my new phone will be shipped out as soon as I give them a tracking number for the phone I have already.
Moral of this story. READ THE EXCHANGE/RETURN POLICY!
Sorry it was a slow news day

No commentsMy DataCenter has a new location! – I is happy!
This is good news because I will have more bandwidth connections! Here is the article!
Limestone Networks has opened a new dedicated hosting facility and data center in the DataBank building in downtown Dallas. The facility features all-fiber connectivity, multiple connections to the power grid, redundant power and cooling systems, and multiple security layers.
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) November 8, 2008 — Limestone Networks, Inc., the Dallas-based dedicated hosting company has opened a new data center in the DataBank building in downtown Dallas.
The new Limestone Networks facility features all-fiber connectivity to the Internet and the latest in power, cooling and security systems.
“This is probably the most secure data center in commercial use,” says Gary Kendall, CEO of Limestone Networks. “The DataBank building used to house the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. In 2000, it was thoroughly renovated to take advantage of its inherent security features, creating one of the most desirable facilities in the US for the server hosting industry.”
Limestone Networks has applied the most rigorous standards of design, testing and maintenance to their new facility to ensure maximum security and uptime for the critical data and applications of their clients. The facility enjoys:
* Six utility feeds from the Dallas Central Business District power grid, featuring reliable N+3 transformers with ATS switches, plus secure, concrete encased building feeds.
* UPS and Generator Backup Power using true A+B power configurations
* All UPS and Generator deployments provide N+1 redundancy provided by
* four 800 KVA MGE UPS systems
* two 1200 KVA CAT UPS Systems
* four 2.0 megawatt generators
* three 1.5 megawatt generators
Security for the new facility is maintained through:
* on site security, 24/7/365
* card access required to enter parking and building lobby
* biometric hand scanner required for data center entry
* annual SAS 70 Audits
A consistent data center environment is maintained by an HVAC Cooling System designed with N+1 redundancy and featuring
* 3500 Ton cooling tower capacity
* a multiplicity of 30 Ton Liebert CRAC Units.
* 80,000 gallon reserve make-up water tank
* Liebert Leak Detect System
Says Kendall: “We believe that our customers should never have any concerns whatsoever about the security, reliability and integrity of their hosted data and applications. That’s the reason we built this new facility.”
